What is urban in Scandinavia?
Scandinavia, "my" part of the world has only a few genuine urban areas; Stockholm, Oslo, maybe Gothenburg and then the Copenhagen-Malmö region, known to many as The Öresund region. That region has more than 3 million inhabitants spred out on both sides of the water called Öresund, separating Sweden and Denmark, but connecting the region by a bridge in the south and frequent ferries in the north. Larger cities (Copenhagen, Malmö, Helsingborg,) mid-size communities Landskrona, Helsingör and Lund and then a whole range of towns, villages and rural communities makes up this region. This is today prabably Europe´s most secular region, church attendence less than 1%.
From a structural point of view I assume I don´t live an an urban area, but from a cultural and spiritual view-piont? The complexity of this region is somewhat overwhelming but also very challenging. If we will be able to plant churches effectively in Scandinavia, I think "The Öresund region" is crucial and I would be interested if there are experiences and view points to draw from for this particural area.
In all research made about "secularism", Sweden seems to be at the top - or bottom if you will - and in some ways the urban culture and life style has affected the entire country, not just in the metropolitan areas, but overall. So even if socially the life style of a small community and a big city differs, the values and the spiritual culture is quite similar. How does tha apply to "only urban areas", as a value for Urban Expressions?
