Dutch update

Posted May 30th, 2007 by ceuna in Category: Resources

It has been a long time ago since I've written at this forum. There're reasons for that, not at the last place the fact that my wife and I have become mother and father of a beautiful daughter. But between all the hectic that's ordinary for young couples, having pressing private and professional lives, I 've found some time to contact some UE associates in the Netherlands and to reflect about SMWs books and the options they open for my own plans and lines of thought. Because my fellow associates have blogs of their own (Dutch), I decided some months ago to start one too (also in Dutch), as a kind of instrument to develop thoughts about church planting, post christendom context etc etc. One of the things I know now, is that "planting a new church" means my own context "starting a new movement". Perhaps a very unimportant detail for 'ordinary' people 'outside', but for me this 'translation' is important to build on a solid, well reflected foundation. I have baptised my own churchplanting project "Theophano Project", Theophano (a Byzantine princess) counts here (i.e. the city of Nijmegen) as a symbol of reconciliation between the Greek and Latin Christian World. I have realised myself that the empire she represented in the West perhaps not really fits in the Post-Christendom doctrine, but on the other hand her name opens also the vast world of the Greek-Orthodox spirituality, a spirituality that could be interesting for Western people tired of the very verbal, uninspired, in a modern way conducted church we've known for the last decades . The first thing I consider as important, is to start a praying group, as a basis. Justice (environemental, social) will be an important theme too, but I'll have to start it later, since you can't start all things at once. It's an ambitious programme, I know. It will only work if it will be blessed. We'll see. Progess can be tracked at my blog (Dutch), and at some time I will write something here again too, since I still value my association with UE and the ideas and person of SMW very much.
